Welcome to the Electric Guitar Society forum! This forum was born out of an informal group of researchers and enthusiasts interested in the early history of the electric guitar. Over the past decade or so this group has been studying, sharing, and debating research into the often murky narrative of the development of the electric guitar and other electric stringed instruments, including the electric bass and the electric violin. Starting in 2008 there have been a series of symposiums on the early electric guitar at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum ( wichitahistory.org ). At the third symposium in May of 2016, it was decided to make this informal association of early electric guitar “geeks” a bit more formal, and so the Electric Guitar Society was born, of which this forum is the Society’s first venture. Although the initial informal group and associated symposiums have focused on early electric guitars, this forum welcomes any and all interest in all things electric guitar.
Or to put it more succinctly and cogently, we are just a bunch of dudes (and dudettes) think that this electric guitar thing just might not be a passing fad. (Then again, we’ve been wrong before.)
So welcome. Come in and look around. We are glad you found us!
